Your long journey to Hong Kong doesn't end with the flight. Be prepared for the last leg of your trip with these tips for getting to your hotel. From the most convenient to the most economical, check our these five transportation modes to find the one that's right for you.
Best Overall - Comfort & Convenience
Hotel Car/Limo: By far the most comfortable and convenient way to get to your hotel, this service can be booked in advance through your travel agent or directly with the hotel. If you haven't booked in advance, look for your hotel service desk as soon as you come out of baggage claim.
Pros:
- You can be on the road to your hotel within minutes of arriving
- No navigation required
- Fast
- Expensive (Average cost: HK$500)
Best for Convenience
Taxi: If your hotel does not provide a car service, a taxi is your best option for getting around. Cabs in Hong Kong are color-coded. Red taxis will go to most of Hong Kong and Kowloon, Green cabs will go to the new territories, and Blue cabs will go to Cantau Island.
Pros:
- Fast
- Cheaper than hotel cars (Average cost: HK$300-400)
- You may have to wait for a car
- You'll need the address of your hotel
Best for Avoiding Traffic
Train (Airport Express): If you arrive in the morning and are in a hurry, the Airport Express train is a good option. Running every 12 minutes, you can be in Hong Kong in 23 minutes, no matter how bad the traffic.
Pros:
- Fast
- Trains run frequently (every 12 minutes)
- Economical (HK$60-120 depending on destination)
- You need to know which stop is closest to your hotel
- Trains may be crowded
Most Scenic
Ferry: For great views of the skyline (this may be your only sightseeing opportunity, after all), get to city center by way of ferry.
Pros:
- Scenic (though you may be too tired to care)
- Very economical (HK$35)
- You need to take the S56 bus from the airport terminal to the Tung Chung Development Ferry Pier
- Slow
- Not very convenient
- Requires multiple transfers and navigation
Budget-Friendly
Bus: It's economical (HK$45), but the time and effort required to find the right bus (and wait for it) makes this option a last resort.
Pros:
- Very economical (HK$45)
- May require multiple transfers and navigation
- Very confusing
